Why Living Foods
2,500 years ago, Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, recognized the connection between food and health when he said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”.
Over the centuries we have lost sight of that connection, but today are being reminded by alarming increases in heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity and health care costs. Today, almost every one of us is at high risk from these deadly diseases and the quality of our lives is further declining as anxiety, depression and fear invade our emotions more and more.
Fortunately, we are coming back full circle to the words of wisdom of Hippocrates, and are now realizing that our food is both the very root of the problem, and at the same time, the solution. Now we are asking: Which foods are good for us? Which ones are harmful? Why?
The Perfect Diet
The perfect diet is the one we have enjoyed for millions of years…..100% natural, organic, plant-based foods with an emphasis on dark leafy greens and fruits that are living and have never been heated above 116 degrees Fahrenheit. This diet has a profound influence on the quality of our lives because it is exactly what nature designed for our bodies to thrive on. These natural foods can provide us with all the nourishment required for energy and good health, growth and healing, muscles and strength, mental and emotional clarity and for building a powerful immune system to guard against disease.
These powerful foods are called “living” or “raw” foods because they have never been heated above 116 degrees Fahrenheit and are still alive and filled with living cells and powerful natural nutrients from the earth and the sun.
Dead plants and dead animals, processed foods and most supplements have very little nutritional value and do not give us the nourishment we need to stay healthy and emotionally well-adjusted. Even worse, they deliver dangerous toxins to our body that accumulate over a lifetime and constantly erode our health.Heated Foods
Scientific Studies about the effects of heating our food during the process of cooking have yielded surprising results: Heating food to a temperature of 116 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, alters the life-sustaining enzymes in at least 2 harmful ways:
First, the heat from cooking destroys close to half of the nutritional enzymes in our food. That means that we must eat at least twice as much food as living food to get the same amount of nutrients.
Second and perhaps most alarming is that heat causes a large number of the enzymes in our food to become altered or mutated into substances we would never knowingly put in our body. Enzymes are proteins and have a very specific 3-dimensional structure. Once they are heated above 116 degrees, their structure can and does change from the heat. Before they are heated, these enzymes are nourishing for us, but after they are heated, many of them become mutated into harmful toxins causing our immune systems to overwork every time we eat them. When we consider how frequently most of us eat heated foods, it becomes clear that we are constantly overworking and weakening our immune systems several times every day.
If scientific studies about cooked versus raw foods are not convincing enough, then consider that those people who actually changed their diet to an unheated, plant-based diet almost unanimously claim incredible and surprising benefits from this diet. One study of over 500 subjects showed that people who followed an 80 to 90% raw foods diet for 2 years reported marked improvements in immunity, digestion, allergies, weight moderation, chronic illness, and mental, and emotional well-being: Lenka J. Zajic, “An Investigation of Over 500 People Who Have Eaten a Raw Food Diet for Over 2 Years”.
Conclusion
We are a composition of living complex natural cells and organisms and the optimum nutrition for us is in the form of living nutrients. Dead foods have little or no value and are usually toxic. Nature has provided us with the perfect diet of natural, organic, living plants, but we have tried to make it taste different and make it last longer on the shelves so we can profit from it’s sales. Unfortunately, we have made a grave and costly mistake that threatens us all and can only be corrected by returning to the way we are intended to eat…..natural, living, organic, plant foods.
